We are all so excited to work with you this year!

Canberra Class will do Forest School on a Monday. They will need to bring a waterproof coat and wellies so that they are equipped to go out in all weathers. They will also do swimming on a Tuesday so they will need to bring a swimming kit to school. We have our class P.E session on a Thursday morning. Canberra Class may also participate in P.E lessons with other year groups. If this is the case, we will let you know what day this will be happening. The children are welcome to wear their P.E kits to school or bring their P.E kits to change into at school if they feel comfortable.

For PE, children should wear shorts, leggings or jogging bottoms that are plain and dark in colour - dark blue, black or grey. They should not have large logos on. Every child is given one coloured PE t-shirt when they start the school; subsequent PE t-shirts need to be purchased. The colour of the t-shirt represents the colour of the House every child is placed in: Cheng Ho (green), Estervanico (yellow), Sir Francis Drake (blue) and Louise Boyd (red).

Trainers are needed as footwear for PE and must also be a dark colour.

If you wish to contact the class teacher in regards to your child's learning, please do so on the class email addresses, these emails are monitored once a week during term time only. They are a useful way to share non-urgent but useful information that does not require an immediate response:

For urgent matters either see the class teacher at the start or end of the school day or contact the school office.

Canberra Class – Term 1

We have had a fantastic first term back in Canberra Class! The children have settled back into school well and we are extremely proud of the progress they are making. They continue to build positive relationships with one another and it has been wonderful to watch the children have fun together as a class.

In English, we have been reading ‘Grumpy Frog’. The message in this story is that it is important to be kind and treat other people with respect, even when things do not go the way we have planned. We had lots of fun exploring the feeling ‘grumpy’ and re-writing our own imaginative endings to the story.

Our Term 1 topic has been ‘New Beginnings’. We have been preparing our classroom for the new school year and reminding ourselves of our key values. The children worked hard to create a class contract about the rules we feel are important to us in Canberra Class. We also revisited the ‘zones of regulation’ and the children demonstrated a great understanding of these!

Canberra Class continue to impress us with their amazing maths skills. We have been exploring a wide range of topics this term. Some of our children have been focussing on numbers to 20 whilst others have been exploring different measurements. We have even been supporting some of the children with telling the time. We are so proud of them all!

We would like to say thank you to all of our wonderful parents and carers for their continued support with the children’s learning journeys.

Miss Braywood, Mrs Clark, Mrs Vernall, Mrs SB and Mrs White

Canberra Class – Term 2

We have had a brilliant second term in Canberra Class! We have been luckily enough to get involved in lots of fun activities, including weekly swimming and forest school. We love going on walks, visiting the park and drinking hot chocolate with Mr Maddaford. The children continue to make us so proud and it has been wonderful to watch their friendships blossom!

In English, we have been reading ‘Milo’s Monster’. This story is all about feeling jealous and we have explored this in lots of different ways. The children designed their own jealous monsters and wrote fantastic character descriptions. Some of our children have also been focussing on developing their key skills and have made great progress with reading and writing!

Our Term 2 topic has been ‘Thinking Thoughts and Feeling Feelings’.  This is part of our social skills curriculum and we have had lots of fun interacting with each other. The children have been learning the importance of respecting other people’s thoughts and feelings. They have demonstrated these key skills whilst working together to play board games and create Lego models.

Canberra Class loves maths and have been amazing us with their learning. We have been exploring lots of different areas this term. Some of our children have been focussing on the column method of addition and subtraction whilst others have been exploring numbers to 10 in lots of different ways. We have also looked at place value together. We are so proud of them all!

Thank you to all of our parents and carers for their support. We would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Canberra Class - Term 3

What a fantastic start to the new year in Canberra Class! The children have really enjoyed playing and interacting with each other this term. We have especially loved building models with the Lego and playing outside in the winter sunshine. The children continue to amaze us every day with their love for learning and determination to always try their best.

In English, we have been reading ‘Along Came a Different’. This story has taught us that it is important to accept all of our wonderful differences! The children have amazed us with their wonderful story maps and character comparisons. Some of our children have also been learning how to write simple sentences, including using capital letters and full stops.

Our Term 3 topic has been ‘The Group Plan’. This is an important part of our social skills curriculum as we have been considering the skills we need to work together successfully. The children have learnt that teamwork, kindness and listening are vital to make sure that we are able to complete challenges together. We are so proud of what they have achieved!

Canberra class have explored lots of different topics in maths this term. Some of our children have been working hard to add and subtract two-digit and three-digit numbers using the column method, whilst others have been ordering and comparing numbers to 20. All of the children have tried their best with their learning and we love watching their confidence grow!

Thank you, as always, to our parents and carers for their ongoing support.

Miss Braywood, Mrs Clark, Mrs Vernall, Mrs SB and Mrs White
