Computing at SPS
At Shirehampton, we are dedicated to ensuring that our children can use the Internet safely and appropriately. There are many dangers and problems that children can encounter online if proper safeguards are not put in place. As such, we are adopting the Google Internet Safety program-Google Legends- to ensure that our computing provision is safe, meaningful and relevant. Below is a brief overview of the Google Legends program. If you have any further questions regarding our e-safety approach then please see your child’s class teacher to discuss this further.
What is Google Legends?
The Internet Legends programme teaches online safety fundamentals in the classroom. This scheme provides fun, age-appropriate learning experiences around four internet safety pillars:
- Think Before You Share (Be Internet Sharp)
- Check it’s For Real (Be Internet Alert)
- Protect Your Stuff (Be Internet Secure)
- Respect Each Other (Be Internet Kind)
The lessons also feature Interland, a playful browser-based game that makes learning about online safety interactive and fun – just like the internet itself. Interland is a free, web-based game that makes learning the ways of the web a fun, engaging and hands-on experience. Kids are invited to play their way to Internet Awesome and become fearless explorers of the online world in a quest to deny hackers, sink phishers, one-up cyberbullies and outsmart over-sharers. We will encourage children to play this game at home as well as in school.
