Shirehampton Primary School

Geography and History

At Shirehampton Primary School, geographical and historical skills are currently taught through a topic themed approach. This allows children to develop the skills required within a clear and meaningful context.

Geography:

At Shirehampton Primary School, we aim to produce a high-quality geography education that inspires pupils’ curiosity and fascination about the world, its people and the many vibrant communities within it. Our teaching equips pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

History:

At Shirehampton Primary School, we aim to produce an inspiring, engaging history education that will enthuse pupils helping them to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. We aim to inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past by bringing it back to life, through examining historical artefacts, trips and by re-enacting events. We want to develop your children to become critical thinkers who can, examine arguments and evidence, considering the reliability of sources as well as potential biases.

The Geography and History curriculum handbook detailing the progression of how these subjects are taught across our school, can be found here.
